If you're a terminal junkie, then you may find yourself wanting to open a terminal window sometimes when you're browsing the file system in your file manager.  If you use the Nautilus file manager, it's easy to add a button to the context menu to open a terminal window in the current directory. 

The package you need to install is called nautilus-open-terminal. If you're running Ubuntu, you can install it from the command line with:

If you're running a different Linux distro, check your distro's repositories.

Once the package is installed, you will need to restart Nautilus in order for the changes to take effect. Since Nautilus is used to display the GNOME desktop, you will need to enter the following command to quit Nautilus.

Nautilus should restart automatically after that in order to display the desktop. You can then open Nautilus from the menu or from the command line with

You should now see an "Open in Terminal" button when you right click inside Nautilus.
